I know there's a novel, so maybe the tone of the manhwa is 100% going that route or maybe it'll deviate and be a little less toxic??

Upon reflection while the Emperor sucks hard, it seems he is both weak in personality and weak in authority within the palace
An Emperor shouldn't need to make excuses for not wanting to return to their palace to the Empress Dowager. And yet he genuinely seems panicked and out of options for excuses to use（￣へ￣)
Moreover, in chp.18 the Empress Dowager has already been made aware of his improved health. How? She must have eyes in the remote palace they're currently residing in.
It seems the Emperor's position in court isn't strong and the Empress Dowager seems to be the real power behind the throne...
So I could handle (while greatly disliking) the FL's dad being an arse. The FL's mum had her reasons, but handled it badly.

I get why we greatly dislike the ML right now. He could've EASILY taken both women onto the horse or at a minimum ensured everyone was okay.

Also, he believes the FL's dad only has 1 daughter ╮(￣▽￣)╭ And the FL has been described as a very well paid (read as greedy) stand-in.
Why would he think she was his saviour?? Or a hidden daughter of the duke??
It seems through all the ML's hardship in war that one of the only things that kept him going was his saviour...
So now that he finally has her, he's willing to do ANYTHING to keep her. Even if it means going against his instincts and values...(￣∇￣")

the reason they cant notice that she is a girl is because she has never explicitly mentioned to be a girl in her thoughts. She has said that she enjoys feminine clothing, but that's all. This manhua is also translated from chinese so the pronunciation of the pronouns for male and female have the same exact sound 她 and 他 both sound like ta so
