It's worse than that. He doesn't want to loose the ones he loves AGAIN. He's already gone through that trauma, it is now his greatest fear and a nightmare that haunts both his dreams and his thoughts. He's more then just acting rash. A part of him is truely panicking.

Couldn't say it better (ಥ ಥ) His fear of losing them and reliving the pain coming from that loss drive him to be reckless and desperate but it's his only way to cope with it...
