Nope, I felt it was off too. It feels like Shingo had a melt down (justifiably) and Keiichi was distant to keep himself from getting hurt; that was okay. It was how the later handled the situation AND explained the importance of the ring that feels off. Keiichi doesn't have to wear a ring he can never take off, like it's some collar. All Shingo has is his word, which hasn't held him thus far.
As much as I want them to magically have a fur-baby together by the end, I want to see them in marriage counseling first, if not having a reoccurrence with others in their life such as a dinner with Yuujin's family together or little double dates with Masa and Mayu. I know this is smut but they need dates.
