This was supposed to be a revenge story where the father, brother, stepsister, stepmother, and prince would have miserable lives and she would get her revenge. After all, they were all involved, whether in the neglect she suffered or in being sold into a brothel. But it was already wrong from the start when she let go of what her brother did and absolved the prince of all blame. The father and stepmother, who are also major villains in her past life, suffer no consequences. Apparently, the only one who will get screwed is the stepsister. I don't know if it's the author's incompetence or bad intentions that led them to make these outrageous decisions. Furthermore, the idea that they were seduced by her sister is stupid; seduction doesn't exist. You can be naive, but your actions are your responsibility. In short, it's not worth reading something so mediocre.
The stepmother wasn't a villain though. I can get the revenge on everyone else but this woman legit did nothing except fuck a married guy. What was she going to do with her commoner poor status, say no to a rich man who'd fund her?
Her daughter was messed up, but she just seems apologetic the entire time.
Doing nothing is already doing something, that's called being an accomplice.. She saw what happened to FL in both lives, but all she knows how to do is play the victim. The daughter is hers; she should have taught her daughter to be a decent person. The responsibility of raising and educating her daughter is hers. Besides, just because she's poor doesn't mean she can be a mistress without guilt. If he didn't force her, the guilt is also hers. Otherwise, she wants to climb the social ladder by screwing over others and still play the victim.
It's shitty writing is what it is. The step-sis is a no hit wonder villain who didn't manage to rattle up shit and out of the author's stubborn resistance to think ends up being this instinctually petty shell of a bitch filled with no personality but spite. FL is a supposed badass, but an actual midtier, luke warm heroine. ML is a walking disappointment by virtue of the author's own plot making him look like some moody supposedly 200+IQ kid who chooses his wife based on a whim.
What makes the writing here even worse is that FL doesn't even contemplate, there is no reflection on her part, on what to do with this new life, and what she wants to do with those who hurt her. And when she has to make a decisoin it's just the usual basic FL forgives and forgets spiel.
It looks like she'll choose revenge at first because she's got this badass streetsmart/ alluring conwoman vibe BUT it ends up going nowhere and is only really used to make ML like her more in the end.
The parents here are generally just decorations if you ask me. Especially the dad, with the mom I think it's understandable that she took the backseat to a certain extent, but I wouldn't say she's not at fault either.
They could've worked out if the author gave them more screentime to kinda explain like EITHER "damn we can't control this demon bc of this or that" (the step-sis could've been part of some greater plan to mess with succession or whatever, but no, she's just a salty whore, womp womp), OR double down on how complacent they are - go out of the way to portray them as negligent parents instead of just letting them sway in the wind halfassedly and move on.
Honestly, the punishment of FL's family couldn't be more disappointing. The author acts as if the stepmother were the ultimate villain, but the real villain in this story is FL's father. He abandoned his wife and left her to die alone, abandoned his daughter, and blamed her for her mother's death, which is his responsibility. Less than a year after the death of the woman he "loved," he already had a new daughter and wife. And worst of all, he spent 23 years torturing his daughter and then sold her, knowing she would have a miserable life. But in the end, in the author's eyes, he's just a poor man whose only sin is being a coward and working too hard? So hard-working that he didn't even notice what was happening in his own territory? And so the biggest villain ended up without punishment and without reflection on his own actions, because a man never suffers the consequences of his own actions. It's truly ironic not to know how to interpret the work you yourself created; your ability to interpret reality is less than that of a door.
I'm not just talking about the legal punishment, but also the author's mindset regarding parental neglect. FL herself thinks she should understand her father better, as if what he did were justified and as if a child should rationalize why they are neglected/abused. The author gives the impression that he is just a poor guy, and that's the problem.
Supporting women, my ass. How is it telling a woman, who was betrayed and abandoned for not having children, that her husband still loves her, being supportive? The author, the characters, and everyone who saw this as sisterhood can go fuck themselves. This is another one of those shitty mangas that pretends to be "girl power" but is actually even more meaningless and sexist than fairy tales written 500 years ago. It would be only fair for the empress to divorce this piece of shit.
The BL reader community is a bunch of disgusting people who cover up for abusers and pedophiles. Commenting that you'd rather not read a story where a child sleeps with an adult or that revolves around sexual abuse makes you "woke" and whiny, but is there anything more whiny than creating a word to describe someone who doesn't defend abusers and pedophiles? I bet you're also the ones who read those mangas between babies and adults. Not to mention that you don't make sense. You don't want anyone to comment that the manga is shit, but you want them to read the comments first? Are you stupid? If you don't like people badmouthing your favorite criminal manga, don't read the comments. The comments are open to everyone, not just those who liked the manga.

What is even the point of writing a story where the FL is so boring? She didn't want revenge nor justice? And she feels sorry for her sister too? Did she forgot she could die from the lack of power because of her sister?
