In the novel he wakes up in his wolf form because of his injury and stays in his wolf form for multiple chapters while he heals. At this current moment he wakes up, freaks out BC he can't find pup, and then finds him under a blanket in dog form and he immediately calms down. They didn't do anything remotely sexual ToT
