By the hints so far I'll say, the way Rurahel spoke saying she and the king were one I'll say she was the king's guardian, why would she have children with the king I don't know but I'm guessing that the king might have decided to have the children to free himself of Rurahel link to him. And now that Rurahel is dead, he took the children in because he felt guilty and sorry to them for making them being born and suffer just for his own sake.
isnt the king's guardian disappeared along with his deceased wife after giving it to her? and regarding the king and rurahel's connection, im thinking along the lines of a curse? since words have power and whatnot
