I saw it trending on japanese twitter, I read a post with many parents commenting how they would react and even if some of them admitted they'd react like this mother, I think it's a huge step they are talking about it and thinking about the possibility of their kids being gay. Most of discrimination comes from not knowing, or not considering that different ways of living your life exist.
