Idk, man. I ain't Korean like the author, but whenever I heard someone calls their SO with just their name (and not some cutesy nickname based of their name), it feels rude and distant, sometimes even come across as angry. Probs because differences of culture? Or that's probably how the community I grow up with is like. Tbh, if I hear someone calls their SO using their names, I would automatically assume that they are mad and about to go off in a heated arguement. Like, seriously. My mom only calls my dad with his name when she is pissed and want to send her points across, while men calls their wives by name when they want to complain about something (and low-key mad or salty about it, no endearment at all). I see this pattern a lot among married couples of my community that it didn't bother me at all while reading this manhwa because I know that the author is Korean and more likely to have similar "norm" as I do since most Asian cultures throughout the continent mostly shares a few similarities. I know for a fact that there are terms of endearment in my native language that if directly translated to English will make westerners who didn't bother to learn our culture and understand the context of the language usage will go off in long rants of how akward it make them feel. I don't know any Korean language but my guess is that the term that the author originally uses in the RAW might only exist in Korean language so, the English translation ended up making it awkward. There is another manhwa I read that the ML keeps referring to his wife as "wifey" rather than her name and that is so endearing and cute, so this might be just a translation issue.
P/s: Translators could overcome this by changing "wife" to "wifey".
Also, to be fair, the author also made it confusing by using western insiparations for the setting and characters, yet applying what that I can assume as common korean norms into the interactions between characters. Most people tend to associate with the idea that they are familiar with after all, so reading the ducal couple addressing each other in a way that is so alien to any western culture is bound to be confusing and awkward AF once it is translated.
