my theory is that hangyul always had something going on behind the scenes and when sangjae seemed to pick it up hangyul decided to distance himself further. naseon and chorong probably know this and chose to stay behind the imaginary line hangyul put up so they can stay by his side. meanwhile the closer jeong-ah is trying to get with hangyul, the more hangyul feels the need to stay away in case he reveals something he doesn’t want to
Remember a few chapters back Hangyul had a flashback of someone texting him telling him to stop bothering their friend. That was obviously Sangjae's friends from middle school who texted Hangyul. That's why he cut off ties. He thought he was getting in the way
