Okay first this is a flashback and after reading this chapter I kind of understand the seme a little. Just like how the Mc feels like he’ll never be able to find love, so does the seme. Maybe he thinks that being associated with the Mc for all those years knowing that if he falls in love one of them will die he gave up on that love and when he feels like the Mc will love him he behaves like a douche so he won’t get hurt and neither will die.
