I really hate when this happens in relationships, like it just causes unnecessary drama, doing the "i'm doing this to protect you" shit, like why can't you just consider your lover's feelings, you might be hurting them more by doing shit they don't know giving the excuse of "to protect them" or "I don't deserve to be loved by you" when in reality, you can literally just tell them and let them be the judge on wether you deserve them or they need protecting, like Ian and Lou was doing so good with communication, but now Ian just had to cut him off and not explain anything because of reasons stupid enough to make my head crack.
