Tbh I don't think the author is taking it as something funny, however we need to keep in mind that in Korea physical abuse from elders and family is too normalized, that combined with the fact that it's one of the most misogynists and homophobic places in the world, it's just normal for ppl there to see it as something that happens on a daily basis rather that see it with an approach that it's proper of more liberal countries.
