The OP means in the game's normal timeline, the Duke would have discovered Ilknes (or whatever his name is) first. But since she knows the game's storyline, she went to find Ilknes at the Slave auction years before her father crossed paths with him.
To the OP, the comic never explained the father's discovery of Ilknes, however, so we have no idea if/why the father went to the slave market or why he liked Ilkness enough to make him a knight.
