While I'm thankful for the translator, I do think it's better to ignore the commentaries while reading this, and form your own opinion and understanding of this story.
It's a psychological work, if you can't stomach twisted things then it's best to stay away from this. Otherwise, I say give it a try, it's a good read. The inner monologue and dialogues of the characters are splendidly written (go read the official translation too) and the emotional aspect of the story was delivered very well.
My only complaint is that I wish it could've been longer.

The thing is that it wasn’t written as a psychological.. the author wrote it with hostility and genuinely in a terrible head space. It’s disturbing overall.

This, I will agree that trigger warnings are important and it seems that the author didnt want to acknowledge how brutal this was, which is wrong but past that, you be the judge of what you can tolerate and go ahead only if you know you won't be triggered by it.
