In my opinion it's only physical and the writer left it to that shitty ending so we all can decide how it goes.
Yay Kabu made it in time before they killed Nirasawa. I am also glad that the guy with the blond hair and shades didn't really betray Nirasawa it was all part of Kabu's plan.
