Honestly I don’t think he is and I don’t think he’ll react homophobic. Maybe surprised but not homophobic. He’s wants someone that wants his grandson to have someone he loves, he cares for and who will care for him and will love him. That he’ll have a life long partnership and someone that puts him first, and he’ll put first. For someone that comes from another generation and probably has some strong beliefs in marriage, since he probably experienced a good one and the ppl around him too, he thinks that all the things he wishes for his grandson can be found through that. Which he isn’t wrong with. Only that marriage isn’t the only thing that could give all these things to his grandson. And that is something he didn’t consider or knows bc he is from another generation. But even if he wishes for his grandson to marry, this statement alone doesn’t make him homophobic, but just a traditionalist. He’s worried about his grandson cause honestly if you're alone, and the grandpa is, then wouldn’t you also react negative to your grandson saying vaguely “I want to be alone”. You don’t want him to end up like yourself. Yeah sure marriage is the first thing that popped into his mind but I believe and I want to believe that if huanwen had a partner, not even just a romantic one, that will be there for him his whole life, then he’d accept it. Maybe he wouldn’t completely understand it, but I truly believe if he trusts this person and sees how much huanwen trusts and loves the person then he’d accept this
So I try to say he has to learn about the fact that marriage isn’t the only thing that ensures all those things he hopes for his grandson to find and also that marriage doesn’t always ensure these things at all. I think it’s not really about the marrying part in itself that he wants, but more for the things he wishes for his grandson and his first thought is to think of marriage when he thinks of ways to ensure all those things. I want to believe and hope that he’ll accept that because he loves his grandson and it would break my heart to see the opposite.
