Man this story had potential if it wasn’t like 95% smut. Could’ve been going one way where Nanaki realizes he and his brother can still be together even if he turns back into a boy which he identifies with(which btw I don’t get why he thought that if he turned back into a boy they couldn’t be together?? What’s with that Herero bs)
OR and personally what I thought should have happened when Nanaki decided to remain a girl is to realize that he actually felt more comfortable as she and came to some sort of realization that she was trans...but no we just get smut which like isn’t bad just a little disappointing
1. the change of art style?? The new one looks wack, like its not bad per say but I just massively preferred the old one. Kyoko for the most part looks mostly the same thank god but Ren and Sho look so freaking different I had to double check to make sure they were the right characters. My longer haired Sho, what happened to him T-T
2. Hot damn the anxiety and stress I felt when watching the whole pre confession thing go down like gah I wanted to smack the both of them in the head as many time as necessary to get their heads on straight. The amount of unnecessary drama the two had to get here was unimaginable, and all their friends coworkers and boss as like yeah these two are into each other like I know they don't want to butt in into other people's love lives but I think at the very least they could have said a little something to make sure these guys had a better hold of the situation and their feelings because jfc Kyouko out here with misunderstandings a mile high and Ren wasn't able to figure out what he should be doing to make things clear until a goddamn chicken told him what to do....The author out here tryna make it seem like the friends/coworkers and boss were out here tryna help them get together but lets be honest they helped less than one chicken mascot who was actually one of the parties involved with misunderstandings a mile high.
3. The confession was so...lackluster? Like don't get me wrong the amount of relief and joy I felt when they finally got their feelings out and in the open was amazing since it's been forever since I read this so I only just read the more recent updates. But like...I kinda felt like it could have been a bit...more emotionally poignant than what the author wrote because the joy lowkey felt hollow. Hope the author expands on them solving their problems (and trust me they have a lot to get through) like better communication because I know that some huge misunderstanding that could have been easily solved by just saying one simple sentence is common play for any shoujo really but istg I don't want to want to smack them more than I already do ok.
4. Lowkey this entire thing kind of needs a rewrite at some point just to straighten things out. There are some plot holes, random plot divergences, and plot jumping that could really use some organizing. Like there's just a certain point in the middle where everything kind of gets messy and I'm not sure if the author is just losing track of all the chapters they wrote or what it is but yeah.
5. Do we see the Cain Heel reveal or what?? Like bruh I just wanna see the crew of the movie being like omg that was Ren? Is that too much to ask for. Also the Heel sibling arc was by far my favorite just on the pure amount of UST if nothing else. Like damn some skinship? Alright, alright I see you. But also the Heel siblings in general were really fun characters to watch play out and also it was nice to sneak a peek into Ren's psyche.
6. The Corn Arc made me die a little inside. No, not a little, a LOT. Like I get it Kyoko, you think magic and fairies exist, which imo a little strange for a 17 yr old girl to still believe in but who am I to judge. But also she was like "Corn looks exactly like Ren from his muscles to his bones and pysique and their voices are exactly the same. OMG has to be MAGIC bc he's a FAIRY" Yeah...I'd sooner believe that there was cloning or an evil twin involved before I would go that far you know, but again, I digress, who am I to judge. And Ren out here being like "I'm just gonna pretend Kuon and Ren are two completely separate people and then manipulate her into giving me a kiss." because yes that is the epitome of romance. The sheer embarrassment I have towards both of them during that arc was so much worse than the Kyoko acts as Kuon arc because while it was embarrassing as all hell the positive feels I got from it more than made up for it (Papa Kuu you go) but this arc was just embarrassing, the kiss just made it worse because of the manipulation involved.
7. Man where'd the Beagles go? Lowkey love those side characters for sheer comedic value. Boi seeing spirits and past memories could have been a way more interesting peek into Ren's past too than the smatter we currently have too.
8. Fuwa Sho...still an asshole, but grows on you like goddamn mold. I hope him and Kyoko manage to come to some sort of resolution to all this, and for some reasons I'm getting more and more to the point where I have this slight hope it's a positive resolution...until I remember how much of a dick he is and immediately regret ever thinking it.
9. Can we finally get to know Kuon's past? We keep getting all these glimpses that are pretty telling but if we could get the whole story that'd be nice. We finally got basically all of Kyoko's so if we can finally get Kuon's that be cool.
10. Lowkey I'm wondering if there'll be a timeskip at the end of this manga and like moka and Hiou(?) will get together. because rn Hiou might only be 12 but after a few years who knows.
11. Kyoko chan really out here saying she thought the gays weren't real I choked okay. Lowkey wish we get an update on Kana and her gf but that seems sadly unlikely but I wish her all the best.
That's all I got for now but omg I have so many feelings and thoughts after rereading the first part and then catching up on the latter parts. It's been a really long time since I've caught up with the series so I'm estatic there was so much content to get through, but I'm sad that there wasn't as much substance as i would have liked. Over 50% of the manga so far has just been misunderstandings after misunderstandings to the point my chest is in pain, like literally, from the frustration.
Rereading the part where Kyoko acts as Kuon and I am drastically reminded of why I can't act. I'm already dying of embarrassment just watching her act as Kuon, like gah I could never. ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄
