igen came from a noble household that fell after being betrayed by his father's best friend(Kasan's father). Kasan's family prospered after stealing from Igen's family.. The flashback is more about how Igen survived after his parents died. He became part of the faction that belongs to the third son of the last king.

The manga is not really shounen-ai. There are indeed hints though but no actual love going on. Even so, this manga is wonderful to read. You wouldn't care reading it without shounen-ai if you got too into the plot.
You can tell they really love each other and they share everything with each other like what lovers would do, give it a shot. This manga is amazing and I love the mangaka.
Yeah even if it's not direct shounen ai I'm gonna read it, I just didn't wanna start with high hopes T_T
