You just cannot put modern standards in these tales that are some kind historical fiction. Arranged marriages from childhood and grooming for that place was common in history.. This is a funny and sweet take on it because the Prince clearly made an error in judgment, and she got away. He prob wanted to push her feelings, because as she tells us, she is not in love ( now)
