As soon as I saw a woman touching her coworker, I was immediately screaming “REPORT THIS TO HR!!” And yet not a thing happened. I’m so disappointed. This isn’t a simple case of office crush where you have the feelings and don’t do anything about it except gossip with friends about how hot a coworker is. This is full on sexual harassment and it creates a hostile work environment ESPECIALLY since BOTH of the married couple work in that building. Idk why HR isn’t normalised. My ass would have dragged every witness to this to HR and gotten her moved or fired. You come to work for work not to flirt with married coworkers. Also this is family oriented Japan! HR sides with families and couples more in family oriented countries than they do somewhere like my country (UK).
Why is he so scared? Is it because he’s an omega? He did immediately have a surgery to remove the side effects of that so I assume it’s that he doesn’t want to acknowledge that he’s an omega wanting a dominant alpha as his mate..
That tells me WHAT he’s scared of not WHY. I know he’s scared of the feelings he has for him. I want to know what’s scary about it. Does he have trauma? Is he scared of being a full fledged omega? Is the ex athlete in him still terrified of scandal? What’s the reason for his fear. Avoidant types are avoidant because of some deep rooted fear. It’s not inherent.
It's been a while since I read the novel so I don't remember their ages well (I have a bad memory in general).

I don’t think we can view it from a civilian standpoint. This whole town runs itself like a military base camp but instead of perceived democracy, it’s pretty much a dictatorship without gyuwon BEING a willing dictator. He doesn’t like any of those rules either but when you’re in an apocalypse or you’re fighting against an enemy thats not going away, you HAVE to change your morals.
Also it’s unfair to say he’s not a green flag when he doesn’t even understand what morals are to begin with. It’s like calling a baby immoral for hitting someone but they don’t know that hitting someone hurts them. They have to be taught a better way.
Personally, the choice to kill the person who stole medicine is the right choice. Not just for gyuwon but for all the residents who don’t want to go back outside. He even explained it. The medicine is set aside for the “hounds” aka people who are on the outside and bring back supplies. If one of them dies, supplies would be lessened and then someone from inside the village would need to go outside to compensate. Keeping the medication for them is smart. The father could have easily asked gyuwon if he can have the medicine and in exchange, if the hounds needed it, he would offer himself to go in their place. Gyuwon would have seen that as an okay deal since balance is still being upheld.
As for him killing people he didn’t need outside, in his mind (as we often see him doing), he’s putting someone out of their misery. He doesn’t understand what a life is valued at because all his memories are from when the apocalypse started and humans and the maggots look similar. How can you value human life when a maggot, a near human, is killed without mercy? He views killing as survival not as a crime or a sin. Just how most of us view killing animals for food a part of survival and not a sin or crime or how we view what the militaries do as something good and to be proud of instead of the mass genocide it truly is. Most of what militaries do is kill each other and civilians in the process. What makes gyuwon any different to what our militaries already do? This whole book is a metaphor for our own society and that’s what ALL apocalypse based media is about. You can’t have a double standard of “don’t kill humans” and also “please kill things that look and kinda sound like humans!” And you can’t have the double standard of “please have morals!” And “you don’t need to worry about morals as long as you keep us alive.”
He may not be a “green flag” in the traditional sense but he was raised to be this way by the villagers not the other way round. Any one of them could have taken the time to educate him or better yet, could have stayed on the outside if they were so dead set on their morals. He’s a “green” flag because he tries to protect those he cares about, he thinks big picture and makes sure the whole survives even if the few don’t, he genuinely cares and loves the teacher even if he doesn’t realise it yet not to mention he’s WILLING TO LEARN. Cesare from roses and champagne isn’t and yet everyone (including me) loved him. Why not gyuwon who has already been established to have the mindset of a child who doesn’t know anything?
For you, my love, TLDR: gyuwon shouldn’t be held to our moral compass considering his mindset is that of a newborn baby and he doesn’t know that what he’s doing is bad since he’s expected to kill near humans (maggots) and views it as “putting them out of their misery”. Humans are complicated and conflicted creatures who have a lot of double standards. He’s pure and doesn’t understand those. We can’t be mad at him for not understanding things that don’t make sense. Also it’s all the villagers fault so at the end of the day, he’s still innocent. He’s being led by the nose.
You can’t throw the first punch even if it’s to defend someone else. I will say though, Korea is really bad at policing gay discrimination and hate crimes. Usually, a good cop would urge the original assailant to drop all charges because in the court of law, no judge in their right mind would prosecute a human defending their possibly blinded lover over a person who threatened one person and assaulted their lover. With that many people willing to testify, it’s an open and shut case. The main issue is that this isn’t a civil matter, it’s a criminal one and is treated as 2 separate cases since it wasn’t our wounded baby boy who hit doucheface. If he was the one to hit him, it’s self defence but since it was technically third party, it’s assault. The law FUCKING SUCKS for doing that but it’s to stop people from ganging up on people. I just hope that bitchface either got caught on camera or drops the case or both!
I understand the way they voted. I too would have voted with them since I understand why the law exists. The people outside are important since they bring back supplies and if one of them were to die, a villager would have to take their place. In order to maintain status-quo, they set aside provisions and medicine for those on the outside aka the hounds. In order for villagers to be safe on the inside, they need to make it worth it for the hounds. It’s an exchange like we do with our military and their discounts. That’s the part I understand.
What I don’t get is the bat. I can’t tell if it’s because they don’t want weapons in the camp so that no one can kill each other or if it’s cause gyuwon WANTS to feel every hit so he can continue to value a humans life accurately or if it’s cause he enjoys it or what. My best guess is that gyuwon uses a bat as a deterrent to others and himself. It’s brutal and slow and painful and he himself has to deal the blow so he himself is forced to confront the life he’s taken. It’s not like a bullet where you’re detached from your victim. You literally feel every single hit you land because at some point, you crack and break the skull and then you’re sinking deeper into flesh. It’s gross and bloody. Having everyone (adults) watch is like how many countries used to have public executions. This is all just speculation tho. I have no idea why he actually uses a bat.
Yeah in a world like theirs this should be the norm. Supplies are limited and not being replenished by factories and people that fabricate them. So finding medical supplies is harder than everything else. You can always make food but medical supplies? Nah they are super scarce...I understand why the father did what he did I do not blame either or. There were reasons for what gyuwon did. Specially the public execution. It's a simple example of actions have consequences and reasons and reasonings
I mean even in our world. In the military, it’s also like this. You don’t take medicine or food without express permission. Even hospitals have to carefully log the medication they use because they have a limited supply given to them. It’s everywhere. The fact that he’s against it is in a way him being an ineffective “peacekeeper”. Like people who glue themselves to the road. It’s not actually changing the system nor does it actually challenge the mindset of the masses. It’s just something they do to feel more righteous while completely overlooking the necessity of the current situation as well as the feelings of those who are forced to be the bearer of responsibility. I hope he apologises to gyuwon. You can see he didn’t wanna do it and he even hit himself as punishment for not being stricter and allowing this sort of insubordination to happen to begin with. Had the dude asked gyuwon, he might have given permission and taken personal responsibility from the dad if a hound needed that ration of medicine. It just sucks.

I just want to point out that DS and MS are not the same. Dominance can be achieved even by little things like rules the sub follows in daily life. MS is the one we think of when we hear BDSM. This book is a purely DS book. He’s showing love by controlling the subs life in subtle ways (checking messages, knowing his whereabouts, knowing who he talks to, etc). That’s dominance. A lot of people don’t realise that. You can have both a DS and MS relationship at once but typically only DS is 24/7 unless you’re a maso-slave. I wish people would spread actual information about what it actually is like so that the BDSM community don’t get demonised or misinterpreted.
