The thing about Helena is that she was never given the chance to grow up. She was the child that's always surrounded by love, never knew hardship or rejection because she was always protected.
For another example of this type, check out Ibelin from Miss Not So Sidekick. She was similar to Helena, but her toxic character came to light once someone didn't focus all their love and attention on her. I don't think Helena would turn out like Ibelin did, but it's clear that she is ignorant in many things.
That's probably how the Empress and Crown Prince like her to be, naive and easily led. Jason doesn't know her as a person and just sees her as this pillar of light that 'saved' him at a dark moment in his life. Hybris is so damn lonely and pressured by the church that he saw Helena as an escape from his responsibilities. In the end, none of them see her or treat her like a person.
When 'Eris' said that Hybris and Helena made a great looking pair I could not find it in myself to agree. I imagined Helena by each of the three idiots and none of them matched well. Did the same with Eris and got the same results. Those three don't fit with either FL!!!

It reminded of another manga where this girl was treated more like a pet to ven the nobles anger vs being treated like an actual person.
