I feel bad for both Tia and Lawrence.
For Lawrence, neither the Emperor nor his mother truly loved him either. Miraila only pampered him because he was the only son born by the Emperor and his majesty doesn't even want him on the throne, his favor is only due to Miraila. It's clear that the Emperor wants the grand duke to succeed him the only thing is they butt heads quite often because of their opposing views. Lawrence is still a selfish person, but I believe that is due to his upbringing. His parents only "cared" about him for selfish reasons, he knew his power was an illusion, because if his power was real he would have been Crown Prince. So, his need for control and unlimited power comes from his insecurities and toxic parents. He's still an evil asshole, but if he had better parents who raised him well he could've turned into a loving brother who respects his sister.
Tia, on the other hand, can still be considered evil. She consciously knew what she was doing was wrong and her reasons were just as selfish, she wanted the love of her family regardless of who suffered. She may have seen the light and wanted to change, but the pain and hurt she caused others will never go away. Now she has the chance to right all the wrongs she did just with her allies and targets switched. Tia would be more of a anti-hero than a true villainess though.
All in all, this is what toxic parents/guardians do to people, honestly twits shouldn't have children at all. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
Also the emperor not making Lawrence crown prince has NOTHING to do with how much he did or didn't love him. Tia already mentioned that what the emperor wants most is to be a happy family with the woman he loves and their son (the reason why she's trying to drive a wedge between the mom and Lawrence). The emperor obviously genuinely cares about both the mom and Lawrence. But Lawrence has never cared about or wanted the love of his parents, he only cares about power and control.
Also following this logic, it makes no sense that you don't feel bad for the mom as well. She was a young girl who was married to a man much older than her, mostly likely against her will since that's how arranged marriages worked. A husband who then SOLD HER to another man (the emperor). In addition, she OBVIOUSLY has some kind of bipolarity or mania.
I think both the mom and Lawrence suffer from mental illness.
How could anyone not love this idiot? She's not like all those other 'heroines' where they try to make them naive and adorably clumsy, Ginger is a flawed person and she tends to end up in embarrassing situations.
Anywho, I have a theory that Jesuit set this all up by cursing Izana. When you think about it, it's not a coincidence that he gave his granddaughter a necklace that would protect her thoughts from mind readers and told her to always wear it. Lerajie(I almost forgot her name and called her Elard before I remembered.) successfully capturing the King's attention is probably apart of his plan and Lerajie would have been the catalyst/pawn for her grandfather's malevolent plans. Perhaps this is what Hamel Bray is trying to stop and why he doesn't want his identity revealed to Izana yet. Hm...
Man, I can't count how many criminal cases I read or watched in my life where the culprit confessed their crime to someone else, leading to their capture. It's like it weighs so heavily on their mind that they have to get it out, but how fortunate for our heroes to overhear his vile deeds--Old and new.
