
I think both of them loved each other a lot and sincerely, but they were not meant to be. She did so much for him, that it kind of burdend him. He kind of felt guilty, because he had the feeling he didn't do enough for her, that he is a burden for her and that he couldn't give her, what she deserved.
It's totally understandable, but he had to tell her about his thoughts, that way they could have come up with a better solution instead of hurting each other.
And I'm truly glad that she had moved on!!!!

Tbh I thought he didn't have sex with them using "being busy" as an excuse. But well, this is more realistic... I truly hate the idea of women seen as objects & that their sole purpose is to bear children & satisfy their husband. I truly hate the idea that there are 3 concubines instead of an empress at once, even if it's not Pauliana.
But truly appreciate the approach of the author... Even though I don't think I'll read it any further...
