In all honesty, it's not Minsoo's fault. He's just a novel character that is being influenced by his author.
If you re-read the story, Minsoo was originally kind, honest and had a good personality. It's the fatso's (dunno his name) jealousy and obsession with Taeyang that transformed him into a "more handsome" version him.
I personally do not picture Minsoo has himself but as a now slim version of the author. Which is a perfect cliché of a virgin / forever alone neet.
