I’m so glad he didn’t accept because most manhwas would’ve had a self sacrificial arc. Love a man whose wife keeps him grounded >>>
They’re so cute but I wish they’d have more climactic moments sober because it kills the mood for me
This story had such great potential but I feel like it was needlessly wasted. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the characters. I genuinely liked how each one had their own flaws, temperaments, and even backstories at times, but something felt unfulfilling after reading.
I think the first thing was how this story started—Leticia wanted to protect Ditrian and prevent him from dying. So I expected it would focus more on them than other characters, while still having arcs focusing on main antagonists/Josephina and Lehir. But after confessing to each other/affirming their relationship wasn’t just a farce, we hardly got any scenes of Ditrian and Leticia. No date, no arc after defeating the antagonists where they could solely focus on each other, not even arguments I felt were warranted. For instance, when Leticia went to the Holy empire by possessing Calisto’s servant, leaving her actual body in a comatose/corpse-like state. Her heart wasn’t even beating? And he had to endure that for days while worried sick about her?? I felt so bad for him, especially because he compared her love to “poison”/said he wanted to yell it her, but couldn’t bring himself to because of how much he loved her. And while you could argue them vowing to rely on each other afterwards resolved the root of this issue… not really. It felt like they both consistently put themselves in danger—like taking on her curse without communicating that to her. TLDR: I wish the author acknowledged times where their relationship teetered on the unhealthy spectrum, so it wouldn’t feel like they were condoning that sort of behavior.
My other issue was with the wings. Irene and Yuria(?) suddenly unlocked their powers within the span of a few chapters and never had their characters explored in comparison to the others. Also, how Noelle’s dilemma of settling down was because she “wouldn’t be able to look after Leticia’s own children.” Yes, being a wing means being devoted to your master, but it shouldn’t be to the point of self-sacrifice? And Leticia never learned of this either… which adds to my problem of not communicating about unhealthy ideologies.
Also Julius coming back to life. It was foreshadowed with the ML seeing the vision of them reuniting… but the way the dialogue on that panel mentioned how “the priest’s souls reincarnate to become wings,” which made no sense at that point, as Julius had always just been the prince of the Genos kingdom, never associated with the wings. So I guess it’s both a Julius coming back to life when I already liked how they addressed his character and the way foreshadowing is in your face… Like Leticia’s pregnancy revealed to readers way before anyone in the story knew, along with the relationship between Dayna/Barnes, and Kailas/Julius, which takes some of the excitement out of it if you’re gonna develop it anyway/not end the story there.
Anywho as much as I complained, I did enjoy this story!!! I remember waiting for chapters to come out when I started high school and really liking their dynamic years ago. It’s a shame it didn’t develop as well, but I did enjoy some aspects of the storytelling, even if not everything. I cried A LOT. I wish I had a better idea of what I was getting into at first/how it’d be more plot than romance focused, but I’m glad I continued reading regardless. Liking the side stories with Dayna/Barnes I won’t lie, but I do hope the last one is about Leticia and Ditrian. If you read this far lmk if you ever wanna talk about manhwa/want some reccs. Stay safe and take care!
I understand that Baraha is the SML because she doesn’t view him in that light/its clear Yurien was the ML from the beginning but ITS SO HEARTBREAKING. Why do they always develop chemistry with the SML like crazy then toss him to the side. I do enjoy Yurien’s character but he’s hardly had a genuine convo with the FL as of this point/I don’t fully understand why he cares about her so much? Yes, he empathized with her situation but isn’t he depicted as calm and calculated with everyone else? Comrades and friends he’s known for years mind you. It just feels unrealistic for him to care about her to this extent with the lack of relationship development. I’m sure they’ll add some kind of flashbacks like “he liked her all along” but I don’t know. Right now I just really enjoy the simplicity of Baraha’s character over Yurien’s.
I finished chapter 42, I feel like the story is a bit dull. Is it worth finishing it?
