More like ovulation. During ovulation your hormones cause increased sex drive hoping that the newly released ova will be fertilized. That's when animals go into "heat" also.
yeah but I don't think ovulation last for 7 days like period does .. the idea might be same like ovulation but it look like period , also is ovulation painful !

Ovulation can be painful for some and can effects can last 7 days. Our bodies are weird chemical and physical machines! (Source=12 years in obstetrics, and three kids of my own)
