I think as the previous comment said, they wanted to focus on the younger. So at some point when he was little, he live with his grandparents. When we saw the flashback, the mom was like "how can I live with him now? he's like a stranger", and Juhyo was visiting his grandma in the hospital, so I'm guessing she got sick (and maybe grandpa died) and he had to go back to his parents for so time before independing
