1) the emperor fell in love with Lizzie
2)and the emperor chose lizzie as the queen/empress because lizzie is incapable of having a child. Since the emperor thought that he’ll stay with his lover till the end (the red haired girl) he picked lizzie because if lizzie cannot have a child, his lover could just have the child instead of lizzie
