It’s not her fault, her real daughter still clings to the mother she knew was hers despite the abuse. Rosnie saw through the abuse and distanced herself emotionally but Merrily still held on just a little bit. Hopefully they get close in the next chapters.
How can you say that? If she became selfish and poured her emotions on the girl, it'd only hurt her. Taking things slow was the best course of action. The only reason the other girl got close first was because she could she her parents weren't good people unlike the MC's daughter. I believe she did the right thing.
