Actually it is, at the beginning it was said how his pheromones were strong and thats why he got “hated” in the first place
I read and reread it again (and even read the novel just to be sure that I wasn't missing it) and they never talked about pheromones or omegaverse. He just talked about his smell being troubling. But like, they never talk about pheromones or omega etc. And homophobia doesn't even exist in omegaverse, it's more like omegaphobia. There is like zero hints in this story that could imply that it's an omegaverse except for this one scene in which he talked about smell and not pheromones.
