Ok I'm really conflicted.
First the the stories ending is cute and I liked the progression in chapter 3. But until then...
Maybe I'm overthinking it but Kaede is doining all the work in the relationship and he is getting nothing out of it first. He is basically talking to a wall. And then his situation. Basically he is sold (in his perspective) and locked up with an hostile man who is more or less molesting him, if not rapeing him. And he becomes attached with minimal concession. At this poin it can also be Stockholm Syndrom and then, because the pressure is not high enough, he has to fuck with a wolf, now he is an animal, to rescue the guy.
But I can't really blame Ren, cause he is emotionally destroyed. He had to surppress his feelings and now takes a medicine for the same pourpose, completely negleting his fiancee.
And then there is the other guy helping the rabbit, which was not ok either.
Really I shouldn't think to much, but even when the story seems cute at first glance, but the characters are both emotional wrecks.
I don’t think that’s the case. Though it’s true that he’s been sold off basically (any village suffering from famine would sell of a child in exchange for 2 years worth of food) Kaede wasn’t treated as property and everyone was kind to him. It’s more of an arranged marriage type of situation rather than a slave contract. I agree that during the kaitaka Ren’s attitude was really cruel but since it’s a tradition in the wolf clan you have to consider the fact that it’s normal for them. Also their relationship from how I view it is far from being a case of Stockholm syndrome as Kaede meets other people and isn’t attached to Ren for the sole reason that he’s the only person there. I get where you’re coming from but because we got Kaede’ a perspective into things and how he started to grow feelings for Ren I don’t feel like their relationship is forced.
So he is no property or sold, but everyone would sell their child in this situation...
Really arranged amrriage is basically selling someone and this time it is especially bad, because it is stated that therabbits are the mkst suitabke in this situation because of stabilasation is working best with them.
No stockholm because he is seeing other people? Yeah other people are nice and emphazise the cuelty of his spouse. It makes it worse and shows that wolfs don't have to be like it (the other guy is helping Kaede). And Kaede has really no choice but to let his family die.
Growing feelings to an abuser in a situtioation someone has no reign himself over is the mechanism behind stockholm syndrom and equally bad in abusive relationships. And reqlly that what it is an abusive relationship.
The romatisation of this kind of relationship is a societal problem. Even the gifts of the abuser are a sign for it. Honestly Harada could tell this kind of story without the cute art and pseudo natural exucuse of animal people and would be more clear.
Really the only thing is that Ren is also a victim because he had to surpress his feelings is a demaged person himself.
The overall massage of this work for girls is even if he is cruel and tortures you, stay there. He has problems and can change. Look at the people sourrounding you the are nice (have piry) and he brings you after complete submission a few presents.

However I gotta say that the author shouldn’t need to worry about how girls will perceive her story because she doesn’t write mangas as life advice books. In the first place if you consider creative writing a societal problem then I’d like to see what society you find ideal.

Hmmm really? I was also worried that this would turn out to be a Stockholm syndrome situation, but I think it turned out fine. My reason for this? Kaede is able to freely express his distaste, annoyance at Ren or get angry at him but Ren doesn't respond with violence and verbal persuasion, as far as I could tell. Also, while Ren wasn't exactly being nice to Kaede in the process of them falling in love, he wasn't an asshole and would still take care of him. Kaede started falling for Ren AFTER Ren started opening up and being less rude to him and that's why I thought that their relationship was fine and wasn't Stockholm syndrome. What do you think?
I agree with this! Not just that they had just barely gotten to know each other, it was basically an arranged marriage and they weren't going to see eye-to-eye right away nor like each other. And as you said Kaede was free to express himself and Ren even told him to tell him when he didn't like something. He wasn't abusive per-say nor was he particularly aggressive. Maybe a bit of a snarky asshole with some attitude but again, this was within a 2 week period. They got to know each other better and Kaede admitted he liked their relationship full of banter and silly fights. The only thing I will admit is a little strange is the whole kitai -whatever thing. I know it's tradition for them but it felt so rushed to have these two who just got to know each other partake. I understand they rushed the whole thing with Ren in mind, hoping he would mate quickly so he wouldn't "return to the ancestor" but still. Yikes.

Man I just think y’all are really obsessive over what’s right and what’s wrong. Obviously arranged marriages aren’t happy and most of the time end up passion less but you have to consider the HISTORICAL CONTEXT. A good story is not determined by how politically correct and ethical it is. Now I’m talking generally cause y’all are making a lot of statements that I find ridiculous (if every piece of romance fiction were to be a picture perfect love story between two cookie cutter characters it would be absolutely boring) and I don’t think that this manga touches the subjects of abuse, assault, rape and Stockholm syndrome in any way shape or form. Kaede shows that he thinks for himself and is not in a position of oppression. In the end think how you like to think but i gotta wonder how you people read yaoi cause oh boy there is so much worse.
