I just started reading this earlier and now I'm at chapter 142. I'm annoyed at jay's mom, imagine the stress, pressure and high expectations that he get from his mom and to think that his mom is a doctor how ironic.
We can all relate and know how it feels because this is also happens irl. The parents/family itself is one of the reasons why their child is being rebellious and they tend to blame it for the people without knowing they are one of the cause.
Regarding to his mom, she got a point tho but it's like jay is a bird that locked on a cage. There's no freedom in it.
