These changes take away so much, not just from Edith's character but from the others too. One example is Cliff. The main characters were all heavily under the influence of the author, Cliff the most, but even so, it was Cliff and only Cliff who saw through Lize from the start (but decided to help her anyways), not the Duke, the Duchess or anyone else. The other one is naturally Killian. Here, he was practically powerless and it was the princess who saved Edith. The princess who interacted with Edith 3 times or so...and Killian's great moment is gone. Not even talking about Linon, the witness, who should've brought the decisive evidence. He is the prime example of Edith's approach of constantly interacting with the extras as the only successful method.

    Spoiler for the novel
When Edith gave up hope, she returned with the knights in a sorry state and was taken to the execution ground without even questioning her of her involvement. The Duke was ready to execute her when Killian arrived and the Duke gave him the right to make a decision of Edith. Killian said those lines from the original novel, that every Riegelhoff deserve to die because of their crimes and then he said, my wife is, btw, a Ludwig. Then he talked about his investigation, there was chaos, Edith's hood fell off, they saw her injuries, even the Duke was surprised, thought that Edith was attacked after running away from the castle but Killian said that she sustained those injuries while in the caste by the maid and her brother, and the Duke eventually decided to put Edith to prison and continued with the execution. After Edith was taken away, Linon arrived to testify for Edith and the maid also the truth about Edith's lineage and her being a dog etc. Killian later also saw her bag, that she only carried a utility knife and a compass with her and had some sweet potatoes like the beggars and cried. It was a really good catharsis.

Wow, that just feels so much more coherent and justified, not to mention cathartic, compared to what happened here :(. Idk why they didn't go through with it but what you told me would've no doubt delivered the most impact to the readers. Tysm for taking the time to write that out <3

I read the novel, to put it simply, the story is a wife chasing crematorium, ML is an idiot as they normally are but he fights and suffers for MC to get him back pretty long but MC is really reluctant. It's a pretty good story IMO

Honestly, I don't really remember. Chrysanthemum garden has currently the first 7 chapters. I think I MTL-ed most of it, probably from Booktoki.

I'm not finished the novel (2/3 done) but here's my pov. The MC and ML have a push and pull and eventually the MC gets pretty equal w him in terms of sassing back and attitude. He's not really a victim at this point anymore, bc years have passed so we only get to see him reminisce on his hard days when he was abandoned, now he's just jaded and dgaf. The ML slowly starts getting obsessed with him and I'm at the point where he's freaking out over him sometimes. Their relationship is constantly evolving and it's not really prone to sudden changes like most manhwas, where they mistreat the MC for a long time and suddenly overnight regret it and start acting different. Both MC and ML go together at a similar pace and are pushing and pulling on each other, realising new feelings slowly, fighting and getting along etc. It's kind of unique, almost like a really long and subtle redemption for their relationship. The world building in the novel is really good. MC has a lot of secret tricks and ML is actually more supportive and observant of MC than u would imagine but they still have the love-hate relationship and MC feels dead inside/over him so there's entertaining tension. I will update this if I finish and see if the ML suffers a lot, but right now their relationship isn't really that bad.

Yes, it will come in that last 1/3 worrygirl hasn't read yet. Spoiler

ML finally came in term with his affection for MC, although he was still traumatised by what has done to him as a child but MC became an exemption. But MC got informed by the bad guy that ML spent his previous years trying to get a solution for getting rid of him, he breaks down emotionally, gets kidnapped and brainwashed to forget everything. ML follows him, he was crippled without his powers, lives like a homeless, getting beaten and tortured for I think 2 years but never gives up and finally rescues MC. Who rejects him, so ML will need to work hard for a bit more

ML was kidnapped as a child and got forcefully guided by a male guide, this is the source of his trauma and every problem they have. It's not elaborated in the novel what exactly happened but very probably he got raped. When he met MC, he thought he is a girl and he was very enthusiastic with MC, even gentlemanly waited for "her" to be of age. During this time, I don't think he slept with anybody. When it turned out, MC is a male, he broke down and on top of that, MC forced the imprint on him without his agreement. This not only triggered his trauma but made him a ticking timebomb, an esper without proper guidance. During the years after that, he lived a very wild life, got involved with a lot of guide, trying to get the necessary guidance, overwrite the imprint, because of sexual needs and so on. In the end, he returns and tries to face MC properly but he is not too good with communication so the road for them is very bumpy.

Yes, it could be interpreted like that too, it happened as I understood because he was shocked by the rejection and emotionally couldn't let it go which triggered the process. By forced I meant that it happened one-sided without the consent of ML. I liked this actually, I think it's a strong point in the novel that both of them have complex situations, none of them is entirely innocent, both of them are victims, but you can relate to both of their struggles.

Rira October 13, 2024 9:32 pm

I can't get over how cute Baek Youngchan looks like, not even talking about the facial expression of the other characters, I say, this is a rare talent, to be able to draw like this.

Rira October 11, 2024 8:41 pm

The story is pretty decent, more complex than the common rebirth-revenge-romance type of stories but it has two fatal flows: 1. not enough face slapping 2. the characters (other than the ML, FL and real dad) are ugly. People tend to read these kind of stories because of the appearance of the characters, beautiful people, beautiful clothes etc and above everything else, for the revenge trope, face slapping, giving back everything tenfold as usual. Without these, it's a bit boring

So, this is the end?
It was pretty good but it's clear the novel should be better. I haven't started to read it yet cause it seemed to be a sometimes low quality MTL...

Rira October 9, 2024 9:42 pm

Those who didn't read the novel wouldn't understand why we are pissed off with these changes and sugarcoating of the novel...The point is that in the novel it was pictured pretty well how Edith became desperate and hopeless through her sufferings, why she lost hope and couldn't leave Killian, eventually chosing death by giving up everything and the real catharsis was when all protagonists faced the truth at the same time - how her family treated her, how hard she fought, how much she suffered during the kidnapping and afterwards and how Killian was the only one who fought for her meanwhile everyone else wanted to execute her as a villian. We want to see the despair, the hopelessness, the impending death and how love and kindness overcame all of these.

    ColdEmpress October 9, 2024 9:52 pm

EXACTLY! It’s this emotional impact that sucks you right in. And it also showed why Edith was able to fulfill the third condition. Here, she’s not even covering her face, there’s no sign of harm/injury. Like my girl went through so much during this arc only for this version to take that away. I’ll still read it because I like this story but the dissatisfaction’s gonna remain

Rira October 8, 2024 4:37 pm

Oh, come on, they've changed all the important elements which make Edith's situation hopeless...Besides her being seriously injured, they also made the duke being kind of impartial and reasonable, although he is still under the influence of the author. During the whole year Edith has been with them, he has never been kind or at least impartial when it was about Edith. Even at the execution he hasn't tried to investigate the truth of Edith's involvement. Linon, the witness, who could save Edith should be unconscious too. When Edith arrives to the execution, she is treated as a villian, no one knows that she is innocent, and Edith herself gave up the hope of survival.

Rira September 17, 2024 7:18 am

At first I thought this is a common 'the heroine gets over through every obstacles meanwhile everyone hurts her but the end she is victorious and happy' type of story and in some sense it is. But before everything, psychological tag should be added.

Everyone in this story is broken. Penelope is kinda like a psychopath. She doesn't care of anybody but herself, doesn't see anyone as human, she just uses them as she wishes, every thoughts of her are revolved around herself. Even in the latest chapters in the novel, her first thoughts are always on herself and hurts others, including Callisto, without much thought. It's understandable, taken into account of her past life and her current life experiences. What I don't like is that literally everyone has a character development later on but not her. You'll need to wait until the very last extra for her to behave like a normal person.
Derrick situation is the worst. He is the heir, has a big pressure in his shoulders but brought his siblings out without permission and escorts and lost his little sister, who was like an angel and loved dearly by everybody. He killed his own sister and ruined his family. He was just a child and noone helped him to cope with all of these. And when his father brought a look-alike, he was reminded on his sins day and night. Even worse, the lookalike didn't behave like the lost child and turned out to be very different from Yvonne. On top of that he fell in love with her. It's just natural that he is the most vulnerable for Leila's brainwashing because he would do everything to change that day and get her sister back. I thought a miracle happened when he broke the brainwashing.
Eclise became insane when he understood that Penelope is just using him and doesn't give a damn what happens with him. It took a lot of time for Penelope to tell him at least one nice sentence, at the very end of their last conversation. Honestly, I was satisfied when Eclise finally let it go and left her behind with the monsters.

    CoyEci September 17, 2024 7:58 am

You’re forgetting that this is survival for her, it’s a life or death situation for her all the time, and even at the end you see that despite all her efforts, it’s practically impossible for her to survive. Ofc she doesn’t have the time of day to waste caring about the minor feelings of all the people that would’ve killed her if she didn’t put a hell of an effort in to manipulate their emotions to be less negative towards her.

    666titania September 17, 2024 2:53 pm

Well this is not your typical story when the FL change her attitude after she went back time or transmigrates then the other characters reaction to her will also change.

No, I haven't forgotten, I stated that her behaviour is understandable. I don't think she needs to be compassionate at this stage of the novel, my problem lies on what happens after the happy ending, years after the happy ending and how she treats others around her at that time. Even when her child goes missing her first thought is something like ah, I have a hard life and only starts to panic when she sees the nanny crying. A pity the author even in the extras only concentrated on Penelope's self-fulfilment and her resentments but not on her improvement emotionally and psychologically.
