So after reading the new chapters I'm thinking that Nain was human 500 years ago and he was the one that played that song? And he doesn't remember it bc the rituals are erasing his memories so he forgets about every negative thing so maybe the cicumstances where amon turned him into "shah" were bloody and Nain was wearing the ostrich feather in his hair then? If this is even slightly true then it's crazy that amon knows that he just forgets stuff that is important to him and he expects that Nain will do something that he did in the past. Also the fact that he forgot the painting and everything??? crazy
The 'bloodiness' your thinking of is amon devouring nain. Like bro literally gulped him down whole, in the novel he talks about how nain was the sweetest thing he's ever tasted and that he should've savored him. Later on you can see that amon still craves nain that way but holds himself back because um he don't wanna murder his wifey.
They erase his memory because nain tries to kill himself if they let them build up, so instead of y'know changing the culture in the palace they decide to brainwash nain even tho it doesn't work. Amon is kinda wishy washy in all of this, despite appearances amon is actually very easily manipulatable and almost naive when it comes to uh basic human empathy
