I don't actually hate the ML, I mean he was also a victim. The real villains are the Emperor(ass brother) and the in laws of the FL. And I think he always send gifts and money to the FL but the in laws stole all of them and ML think she is living a good life. For me both of them are pitiful.

This is not really a spoiler, just a little information of the story
In the original time line the FL was accused of poisoning the princess. It was actually a trap to imprisoned the FL because she is the duke's weakness. I think the one who planned it was the emperor and mikhail (blonde haired bastard). The princess is innocent.
Also the crown Prince is the son of the previous empress while the princess is the daughter of the current empress.The empress is a bitch, she always try to kill the Prince. The empress don't like her daughter (the princess) because she wasn't born a boy. The crown Prince and the princess don't have a good relationship (half siblings). Later they will get closed but always fight with each other.The current empress is the one who killed the previous empress.
Later its revealed that the FL's mom was also killed because of some emperor's plot. The reason Duke obey the emperor is to protect his daughter. And also the Duke was never harsh on the FL, I think there is some problem with her memories, it's quite complicated. When her mother died she thought it was her father who killed her and I think she drink some potion to forget that. You must remember when the FL fainted the Duke keep saying "not again". Because of that some memories got erased and new ones were formed. Because of that when she was little every time Duke come near to her she would freak out(becauause of the inaccurate memories) that's why the Duke don't come near to her.
