I actually think it's interesting that his pheromone is multilayered w multicolors and that they're a shade/s tones that you wouldn't other wise see in a typical pherome based comic. Typical ones are just your avg blue, green, red, monotones.

it's true, it's a curious choice. but I personally think in a visual medium we try to communicate "smell" through text and importantly, colour! and if it's communicating the wrong thing to the readers, I think you're not doing it right. there's a reason why normal pheromone colours would be pleasant and soothing/exciting ones like pink or yellow.

I'm not going to judge the alpha too harshly until I see more of their backstory, and more of the sexual interactions beyond the current chapter.
