I don't know how in the novel but in the manhwa, Taejoo confront Yoon when Yoon want to go back to the war zone. He's asking why he's going back and telling he's sorry for what he has done and tell him he's still in love with him. And then Yoon said he loved him and thankful for him and he's sorry but it's better for them to break up. And then Taejoo kinda like resigned that they won't be back again and just thankful that Yoon can come back home like this. This is what I understand from the raw.
