2nd life, yeodam treated jihwa not woth power but herbs. He didnt show his power, jinhwa became interested with him and eventually developed his feeling to yeodam.
That means if the past emperor changed, it's all bcs of yeodams work. If yeodam did what he did in the past the course of event wont change. Its just like the reincarnation/revenge trope manhwas here.

Taking advantage of yeodams feelings to him,

I know I know,,,, I get ur point. I hate that anything happened to my baby to begin with… he never should’ve gone through that.
But personally, despite that he COULD HAVE turned out the same way, he didn’t. Therefore I, personally, view the Past and Present Emperor as separate people with separate agendas and altered thought processes.
Think about it like this: Nature vs. Nurture
His personality from birth (nature) seems to be a somewhat possessive one, but because of how our baby YeoDam raised and taught him (nurture) he gained a new perspective that has shaped the whole way he approaches the world around him so much as to seriously alter the timeline in their world.
I wont ever defend what he has done to YeoDam in his past life, and I’m not going to say “oh well he’s all great and perfect now” -BUT, I’m not going to apply what he did as his past self to how he is in the present. We have to look at this situation since other then our baby’s trauma, it’s still a clean slate hes starting from.
