I see your point, but why's he better? He started to express some interest only when she started dating someone else, and although they're a not in a real relationship, he doesn't know that and still is trying to meddle and express how concerned he is, when there's basically nothing to be so worried about. Just curious. I see this trope so often and I still don't understand it.
