In the novel, and upcoming chapters, the 3 ladies will be kidnapped and when cliff come rescue them he basically thinks Edith betrayed them (cause he never trusted her) and leaves after getting his mom and the bitch. She figures they never cared for her so she escapes once she realizes she's been left and she was beat up by the old maid so she was hurt really bad before and after her escape. I cried a little in the novel when it described her injuries and when her hubby sees her ╥﹏╥
