Because it’s literally what their readers want. The highest rated BL’s currently on mangago all contain rape or sexual violence. It’s literally what’s paying these authors’ bills. This is rape culture.

Im not saying authors are receiving revenue on an illegal website like mangago. More so my point is that it reflects the genre’s interests on a more global accessible scale. So you could not simply say it’s regional phenomenon despite the authors and their readers being typically of East Asian backgrounds. These authors are using WEBTOON, Tapas, Lehwin, etc to host their works but mangago extrapolates from these legal host sites specifically. So these works that are already popular on their host sites, are amassed in one location for consumers on sites like Mangago, Bato, Newtooki, etc.Now all of the varieties of BL are available in one place for viewing pleasure and yet still, the highest read and rated works are the once’s containing the romanticizing of sexual violence. That’s not to say sexual violence isn’t romanticized in other fictional genres. However, the genre skews so heavily towards romanticizing toxic themes despite its primarily female authors and female consumers. That’s the irony. Hence my point it just feeds rape culture because despite the harsh reality of life even our escapism savors this reality as the “preferred” entertainment.

I don't agree, in fact the highest rated BL's I see are actually shounen ai which almost never have rape let alone sex scenes. Like I get its a market for these types of toxic ish, but I also agree its getting out of hand. I think people like angst and dominance (or the "strong man"), and you can get that without rape, especially by the ML. Cause granted I'd rather never read rape but its a realistic part of society, but this is not just showing it, it's romanticizing it and that's just sick. But hey people will hate a character/story more for cheating than rape, which I find mind boggling. smh

Currently for yaoi on Mangago the TOP 4 in popularity sits “Painter of the Night”, “Yours to claim”, and “ Love is an Illusion”, “BJ Alex”. These all contain romanticized rape.

Does that matter? I know what's popular and I can clearly read numbers. The fact is there are way more highly rated BL that doesn't involve rape than that do. I might not have seen it all but I've seen a hell of a lot and beyond webtoons I'm confident in my knowledge and experience
