Expounding more from my theory #1 that father in law is gay, I have another one. Aside from the fact that father in law feels like his precious daughter is taken away from him, I think some of the reasons why he disliked the MC is that:
1) he reminded him of his first love/crush, and it may have ended on a sour note; or,
2) he is the total opposite of his type. Based on the raws, looks like the blond guy could be his kind of man: gentlemanly, looks cool, mature, and intelligent. MC is neither of those.
You can say thay he is kind of projecting his ideal image of what a good partner should be to his own daughter, that’s why he dislikes our MC
