I don't think Cinian really jumped to a conclusion. It did really look like a friendly meeting rather than a work related one, seeing as neither of them was dressed or was acting in a very business-like fashion. I can see that him calling Cheng was probably just him wanting to see if he'll say something believable, like that he's with a friend.
Plus it doesn't seem that he's trying to be pushy or tie down Cheng, he's just not feeling well, both physically and probably emotionally. He's probably giving Cheng time to tell him about what happened on his own terms
