You literally get to see two versions of him where his environment really determined his character, like I find that so fascinating.
people have been accustomed to Ian that they don't even care about how everything started. it feels like the impatient ones are those who complains about Brian and Sol's backstory being dragged out but also the ones complaining when no one gives a fuck on the happenings of their lives.
And its also fascinating how its Sol who warmed up to Brian but its Ian who warmed up to Sol. We also get to see how Sol became the playful and sassy Sol that Ian met. Brian changed Sol and Sol changed Ian. Its ironic how its reverse with Ian and Brian
and showing Brian second is so genius! it forces you to see Ian as a completely different person because you never look at him with bias eyes from the beginning. it allows readers to see Ian’s point, while also seeing others.
it’s a very complex situation and the way it’s written acknowledges that
yet people don't appreciate it. If we saw the backstory with Brian first then people would say 'he's different from Brian' 'its not brian anymore' 'i want my Brian back' and such. as you said its nice that Brian was shown later than Ian because from what i see now is not people comparing or seeing the comparison between them but simply does not care for the depth of the story.
it’s very upsetting :,) i can understand why people are upset that it’s slow, but at the same time have they never read and appreciated a story that actually has a complex plot and two dimensional characters?
