At this point everyone here is just being dumb. MC needs to grow a spine and speak up for himself against his whole family, Hyung needs to get his comeuppance, Grandfather needs to back tf off, and ML needs to be knocked down a peg or two bc he's not the only one doing a favor to MC. This is a mutually beneficial contract, and now more to ML than to MC, so stop treating him like trash.

Almost every yaoi protagonist has some sort of trauma, but that's the trace of a protagonist, they don't cower like a wimp just because things are difficult.
For someone who went through the trouble of pretending to like men to survive, MC is giving up way too quickly.

Every story is open to comparisons, BL is no exception. In fact, especially when you have such a saturated market, you gotta capture the public.
While people's mental states can be weak because of trauma, and I understand trauma plot to an extent, it reaches a point where either the character grows a spine, or he'll become "Mr. Wasted Potential".
These are characters in an author's story, they have every freedom to choose the route they take.
