This is a theory not spoilers but he's gonna have a totally valid reason for skipping school. Youre right that it seems out of character for him but watch I bet next chapter it's gonna be revealed he skips school to take odd jobs so his mom doesnt have to work harder from the credit card seme gave him
That would make sense, but from a storytelling standpoint, it's kinda irritating that the author is keeping whatever reasons he has from the readers.

This is a mutually beneficial contract, and now more to ML than to MC, so stop treating him like trash.

Almost every yaoi protagonist has some sort of trauma, but that's the trace of a protagonist, they don't cower like a wimp just because things are difficult.
For someone who went through the trouble of pretending to like men to survive, MC is giving up way too quickly.

Every story is open to comparisons, BL is no exception. In fact, especially when you have such a saturated market, you gotta capture the public.
While people's mental states can be weak because of trauma, and I understand trauma plot to an extent, it reaches a point where either the character grows a spine, or he'll become "Mr. Wasted Potential".
These are characters in an author's story, they have every freedom to choose the route they take.
