The essence of 'complicated' is literally this. It felt so suffocating while I was reading it, yet something about it made me want to read more. Clearly none of them are on the "good" side and more on morally gray? Which is nice because this way it became hard for the readers to be subjective and actually focus on what's happening. At least that's for me while I was reading. I really liked how the story is currently going.
