The story is really dry and understandable how could a whole family fall in love with a single person while her birth family didn't? Like she isn't even an illegitimate child or step daughter or like she made her mother dies in childbirth or something? How could they prefer one daughter over the other ?
Well that does happen in real life also. The golden child of the family. Some takes it to the extreme like the story but others might not be that extreme.

I think what you've said is right, but it's also not 100% clear if Marie actually killed herself, as 1) Rafi thinks it's unlike her, 2) She begged for help both Rafi and the other man and 3) She's spoken off as a very confident woman.
My main issue you right now is that I have no idea how Marie and Rafi are related to the rest of the family haha. Like, did they adopt Marie or something? Because either the queen consort was an adoptee or the family accidentally lost a kid somewhere along the way lol
