He thought it was from when she threw her fits, not from actual abuse. She had also said quite harsh things to him when they where younger.
Why would i pay any attention to someone who says i'm trash and that my mother abandoned me willingly? As a child that would obviously hurt a lot and not make me want to associate with that person.
And if you know that that person throw fits almost everyday you would just think the bruises where from throwing things around the room ect.
So he's not really at fault for not noticing.
