Cheongrim is somehow both in denial of his feeling and also gravely obsessive over Sungkyung. I can say he loves Mini Mat because if he did he’d want to see him happy and healthy. His “care” ends where Sungkyungs attachment to him as the center of the world does. He selfish, cold, and yet somehow has an aggressive abandonment complex.

Sungkyung isn’t even living in the present right now and he has no one who loves him enough to get him the help he needs.

Some people are saying he didn’t know killing was wrong….I don’t agree. From this chapter it seems very apparent to me he well aware of his affect on people.

Guwon knows people are afraid of him. He knows people are just “yes and”-ing him because he’s physically undeniably dangerous. He know that people think his mentality is “crazy” and wrong” but no one says or does anything about it.

I’ve said before he’s very much like a child king he’ll do something—anything he thinks is right do if unchallenged. He’s not socially, emotionally, nor logistically intelligent but he will listen if counseled and advised.

I think he values Teach’s bravery and steadfastness where his morals are concerned. He himself doesn’t have those qualities (at least not innately). So when presented with a person who will not only teach him some of these things but actively push back against him I think he’s allured by finding an “equal”.

Guwon has shown many many times he is flagrantly arrogant and I imagine he’ll value the life and thoughts of someone he’s deemed as equal to himself. He’s found that in Teach.

It will be interesting to see how the MC navigates this. It’s a dangerous position he’s in.

The blood was so unnecessary. You can get his self destructive tendencies across without turning it into rape adjacent self mutilation. Jesus it’s so reductive that BL only seems to depict men expressing their emotions especially the negative through violence sex.

Are there plenty that do? Yes but God it’s cliche at this point in these books it’s getting old.

The nose being so tiny and the eyes so close together really gives this a lot of wonk. If those were adjusted I think the art would read nicer

Stillwater is a figment of Guwons idyllic version of the world. I think your “usefulness” to community is determined by the role you can fill/play in the facade. We don’t know if the three kids that are already in the town were there before the doctor…if they were then perhaps for Guwon that quotas been filled.

He is very much like a child-king he operates on ideology he is obviously to uninformed to truly implement let alone comprehend. But because he hold the reigns of security and power people bend over backwards to placate him and “yes” him into a state of pseudo-solipsism.

He does not have the mental nor emotional acuity to lead but because of the state of the world his overwhelming physical prowess makes him nigh impossible to deny.

I think Teach is very quickly going to be put in a precarious situation of being pushed and prodded by the wims of the community because he holds the key to Guwons world view/decisions.
