this story sort of doesn’t have that much of a plot, but i definetly enjoy the couples moments and i totally forgot how they ended up together lol, but i still find them adorable

No matter how much I wish for these two to end up together. I know that it just simply can’t. You can try and vouch for seungho, hell I even argued with myself on how I feel about him. Typical bl’s always have the mc be a jerk, but seungho to jerk to a whole new level. At this point, any feelings nakyum has for seungho will feel like stockholm syndrome to me. Some of you seungho supporters are weird, are you really going to allow seungho’s current behavior be excused by his trauma. It’s like justifying a rapist because he too had trouble growing up. Some of you got to realize that a character can have trauma, it is used as an explanation as to why they act a certain way, not an excuse to forgive him. Seungho has done a lot of bad things in this manhwa, there’s no doubt about it, so it’s gonna take a lot more than a sad backstory for every reader to support him. My heart breaks for seungho cause I truly liked him and was rooting for that character development, but a lot of us want to see more from him.

It really doesn't matter how much you guys whine and cry and complain, Seungho and Nakyum are part of a 'typical BL' story where the author clearly is setting the relationship.
Please answer honestly: If you know that the MCs will end up together ---- and the author is the biggest shipper of these characters promoting shamelessly in official arts so no one can pretend that they don't know where the story is going,
So, see the logic of this: You know how the story will end. You already declared that no matter the 'backstory or whatever shit is written from here you won't accept the outcome so, please give us an insight of the people who, knowing what they signed up for, knowing what they will get, knowing that they will not accept it, honestly what is exactly the joy you get from reading this?
I wish you guys stopped repeating the same shit over and over again and instead analyzed the motivation for people who can't tolerate the non con genre, why hang around a story that you know you won't like when the author delivers what she is very explicitly laying up? Of course the author will give a 'sad backstory' for Seungho. Of course the author will write Nakyum and Seungho falling in love. Of course this will be the justification that the author will give, no matter how much whining about so, please help us understand.... knowing all this shit, knowing as you said you can't accept it.... what are you going to do about it? Read it to the bitter end torturing yourself with a story that will frustrate after wasting all this time?
Please, for the love of all Yaoi Gods, skip the things everyone already heard and give us something new to discuss: What the fuck you guys pretend to do from here? Write the same thing chapter after chapter about how you will not accept what you know you would get from the start and know it's coming.

It's the author who is the biggest supporter of Seungho, the author who will use a sab backstory to justify that he deserves forgiveness and love so , are you calling the author weird?
100% of this story is run on the back of the shippers and by default Seungho fans who want him happy so it's weird when people forget that readers are not making up excuses on anything, they are just following and taking a character as he is being written and mostly as he is being promised.
There is not a single reader here who don't get the signs of where this story is going: the author didn't write much yet about Seungho's past and the premise of the author is shining on every whiner's face: Seungho is cared for by the author. She is not setting up this character to be the poster child of the moralistic crowd who demands his head. The author clearly writes through other characters that Seungho is not a natural born monster.
It's a fucking cliche: the Beauty and The Beast. The Beast is ugly, mean, horrible, abusive at the beginning but it has a sad backstory and through love of the beauty he gets to be the protector and best husband ever. It's a fucking unrealistic Yaoi non con trope.
Seungho fans are not weird, at least not even close to the author that is definitely the number one fan of her own character. So much so that she created a whole fucking story where he RAPES, He MURDERS, he FUCKS every boy in town and by the end of it he still going to be the happiest man on Earth because she will write him a sad backstory. Sue her! It's really a matter of choice read this, even more knowing you will be upset if the author delivers the ship she sells.
That's why I stopped reading this a long time ago, I just don't wanna hate the characters or the manhwa itself anymore because it's just useless for me, less stress and frustration also. I'm just hoping that the author will give them a happy ending, and that's what I heard also. Isn't that what everyone's want? Right?
One can never know. The author makes all her merch on the ship so it's a bit hard to imagine a bait & switch. However I really think that the author makes sure to create art showing them as happy is a way to tell the readers to stick with the bad parts and the end will be worth it.
I think taking a break on the bad parts is not a bad idea, especially if you are waiting for the story to pick up on the relationship part. The short chapters and the slow pace is irritating.
I hate comparing it to KS but I think it was similar fan reactions too? The author kind of shipped the two together and did some special art with them as a team or couple. And some light moments or romantic moments happened. But the ending was not a happy one or romantic one. I don’t want POTN to end like that (I know not nearly the same genre) but I’ve learned not to expect anything.
I feel like KS official art always had the dark dynamic, no? They author didn't 'ship' them, in the story they were a couple so she drew them as such but always as two mentally unstable people hiding someone in the trunk. The fans would draw cutesy romantic things but the author always kept the 'body in the trunk' omen.
To me it's really hard to relate these two stories because KS was psychological horror, not a rape plot trope ( it had rape but that was never a Beauty and the Beast kind of trope).
POTN is not psychological horror. I have no doubt there will still a lot of dark things, especially with the dad but I don't feel any foreboding of tragic ending.
When you notice the progression of the official art in POTN, you see it became softer and softer. In the first ones it was mostly lust and dominance by Seungho. In the latest ones, they are bonding, smiling, happy and the sexual tone is diminished in favor of more bonding and caring like the illustration of Seungho carrying Nakyum in the snow.
I really didn’t want to bring up KS bc I’m sure there are better examples. But I’m not talking about the story necessarily though, but the fan reaction to such lighter more romantic moments led SOME (not all) people to believe it would go a certain direction. But you’re right so I’m trying to think of a better comparison to POTN because KS is too dark tbh to compare. Maybe it’s more in the vein of If You Hate Me So, where he repeatedly rapes and antagonizes the MC but the audience was inclined to root for them because there are lighter moments between the two?
I don't read this other one you mentioned. I think most readers ship Nakyum and Seungho because that's the premise of this kind of story? Since the start it was clear the author was going for it and at least to me it seems the progression of the story only proves that. The space is slow but the mold is being followed.
It's a trope where the abusive seme starts bullying, abusing then falls in love, then redemption arc, the uke falls in love back, etc. This is not even a formula only for rape plot, the variations are everywhere from BJ Alex to shounei Ai that don't go as far as rape but have the dominant seme beating , stalking, bullying his victim/love interest and then the seme starts changing and hey start bonding and so on...
POTN is reaching all the milestones of a well defined trope:
- The MCs don't have any other options of love interest. Although NK starts the story infatuated with his teacher, the author pretty much kept Nakyum 'desire' scenes only with one man. Seungho, despite having several partners, it's never shown to care or pay special attention to anyone else but Nakyum.
- The MCs became monogamous: NK never slept nor will slept with any other man in this story and Seungho's development includes he changing from promiscuous to 'faithful' to Nakyum by now.
- Seungho, despite what some readers want to argue, is not set up to be unredeemable. The author added the sub plots, that Seungho is not a natural born monster nor indifferent to the pain he causes. All that we know means that the formula is that Seungho will be humanized and explained. Another very known formula.
- Other people with good or bad intention want to separate the couple or cause trouble: Jihwa, In Jun, Heena, Min probably Seungho's dad when he finds out.
- 'Realizations' tropes: Seungho kissing a sleeping NK and being confused. Min telling Seungho that he likes NK. Seungho trying to prove he can share NK but not being able to do it. Nakyum's self realizations that he is thinking of Seungho or likes the sex, etc... Mr Kim words to Seungho. Nakyum's voicing this feelings to Heena;.
I don't know, I never saw this story as any other thing or option than what is being delivered and I happen to think that the author promotes the ship not like a misleading way but because it's a way to tease that the story may be gutting but there will be happiness in the end.
Same with Banana Fish...I just don’t see how Seungho will live happily ever after or Nakyum can live without him at this point... The author says they will be happy in their own way, but she also said fans probably won’t be happy with the ending in the previous interviews. They might die (together?) with smiles on their faces (similar to another tragic love story)...or die Winter Cicada style and be reincarnated in present time (hope so)!
